Dance Classes in Saddle Ridge, Calgary
A lot of families in Saddle Ridge come to us the same way — a kid saw a Bollywood song on YouTube and started dancing around the living room, or a mom mentioned she used to dance back in India and wanted to pick it up again. However it starts, that’s usually the moment someone starts looking for dance classes in Saddle Ridge, and that’s where we come in.
We’re Gurukul Dance Studio, and for over ten years we’ve been teaching Bollywood, Semi-Classical, Kathak, Hip-Hop, Bhangra, and choreography for special occasions to students across Calgary. Some come in as four-year-olds who can barely sit still. Others are grandparents who just want to move to music they grew up with. We’ve built our classes to work for both.
Serving Saddle Ridge and Nearby Calgary Communities
Our studio sits close enough to Saddle Ridge that families from Martindale, Falconridge, Taradale, Coral Springs, and Castleridge drive over regularly without it eating into their weeknights. We hear it a lot at pickup — parents saying it’s one of the easier drives on their calendar, sandwiched between school and dinner. That matters more than people think when you’re trying to keep a kid committed to something for months, not just weeks.
Dance Forms We Teach
Bollywood
Bollywood is where most people start. It's fun, it's high-energy, and honestly, it doesn't take itself too seriously — which makes it a great entry point whether you're five or fifty. We teach it to everyone from small kids to adults prepping for a friend's sangeet.
Semi-Classical
Semi-Classical sits somewhere between Bollywood and pure classical dance. If your child has outgrown the beginner Bollywood energy but isn't quite ready for the discipline of full classical training, this is usually where we point them.
Kathak
Kathak is the one we're proudest of. It takes years to get right — the footwork, the spins, the way a dancer's expression has to match the story they're telling with their hands. We run a structured 12-week beginner series for anyone who wants to start properly, taught by instructors who trained in it themselves for years before they ever taught it.
Hip-Hop
Hip-Hop classes tend to be the loudest room in the building, in a good way. Kids and teens come here to burn off energy, learn choreography, and honestly just feel cool for an hour. We keep age groups separate so a 7-year-old isn't trying to keep up with a 16-year-old.
Bhangra & Giddha
Bhangra and Giddha pick up every year around wedding season — people want to actually know the moves before they hit the dance floor at a cousin's wedding instead of just winging it. It's also just a genuinely fun, high-energy class on its own.
Special Choreography
Special Choreography is for the one-off moments — a sangeet performance, a school function, a corporate event where someone volunteered you to "put together something quick." We sit down with you, figure out the song and the vibe, and build a routine your group can actually pull off in the time you have.

Yes — we’re close by and a lot of our students come from Saddle Ridge and the surrounding NE communities. We teach Bollywood, Kathak, Hip-Hop, Bhangra, Semi-Classical, and custom choreography for events.
We’d like to think it’s us, and we’ve got over a decade of teaching behind that claim, but the honest answer is to come try a class and see if our teaching style fits your family before taking our word for it.
Around four or five is when most kids start in our beginner Bollywood or Kathak classes. We also teach older kids, teens, and adults — there’s no upper age limit here.
Classes start at $75 a month for once a week. It drops per class if you or your child comes more often.
Yes, and honestly we’d encourage it. A trial class tells you more in an hour than anything we could write here.
Not at all. We’ve got adults-only classes in Bollywood, Kathak, and Zumba-style fitness dance running throughout the week.
